Introduction
KYLO, hailing from Toronto, Ontario, is an electro-pop sensation known for her captivating and innovative sound. She masterfully blends catchy melodies with experimental elements, creating a unique musical experience that captivates audiences around the world. Her enchanting vocals, enhanced by mesmerizing, layered echoes, add an extra layer of intrigue to her one-of-a-kind tracks.
Q: What is your name? Where are you located?
My artist name is KYLO and I’m located in Toronto, Canada.
Q: What is the backstory behind your artist or band name AND What does the name mean to you or signify?
It is honestly very boring. My real name starts with a “K” [for Kayla] and I just started brainstorming names that began with a “K” and my friend shouted out “Shiloh”, which people called them sometimes and we rhymed it with “Kylo” and thought it sounded cool—so that’s it haha!
Q: How did you begin your journey into the world of music? AND How long have you been in the music industry?
I started getting into music at a pretty young age. I did dance and musical theater from age 4 -12 and then after that started writing my own songs, playing guitar, and eventually started working with other musicians/producers to create everything I’ve put out today.
Q: What inspires you as an artist? Give us some insight into your creative process.
My inspiration is mostly drawn from personal experiences. I am a pretty emotional person so whatever I am going through (heartbreak, love, friendships, family, life, etc.) is what I draw from.
Q: What's your favorite song you've released? Why is it your fave song?
This is so hard. But if I had to pick I would say “Rerun” is probably my favorite — I just really love the melody I created for the hook in this track and had a fun time writing it.
Q: What's an upcoming project or which event(s) are you excited about?
I just released a 5 song EP Retrospect a few months ago, so I have no secure upcoming dates for anything as of yet but I am currently working on new music and will be keeping everyone posted via social media.
Q: We love to read and get inspired by lyrics. Share the title of a song and its lyrics (one of your favorite songs you've either written or released).
Rerun.
Here are the lyrics:
Become so lost in these visions I create You’re not at all what I made myself believe Go through the motions then I stop So I'll forget everything that I want You say that you’re never lonely Holding on to something Drain me til I’m gone Use me til you get sick of me Played one time too many Just like a rerun Baby you don’t gotta tell me You don’t gotta tell me to go Baby you don’t gotta tell me You don’t gotta tell me to go Conversations fade and fall into the past Words get rearranged, freeze up like nervous eyes begging to see, To see more clearly You say that you’re never lonely Holding on to something Drain me til I’m gone Use me til you get sick of me Played one time too many Just like a rerun Baby you don’t gotta tell me You don’t gotta tell me to go Baby you don’t gotta tell me You don’t gotta tell me to go
Q: What are your thoughts about the world of poetry? Are there any poets that you're a fan of?
I don’t have a specific poet off the top of my head that I would say is my favorite, but I love poetry and admire the way that people can write so freely in that sense. Whenever I feel like I am being too literal in my lyrics or get a bit of writer’s block, I love reading some old poetry to inspire me to change the way I’m looking at the subject.
Q: Who are some of your favorite artists and musicians that you listen to?
I have many, many favorite artists from all genres but I would have to say, Janis Joplin, Grimes, Blood Orange, First Aid Kit, Blink 182, and Negative Gemini, as a start!
