dipity's - THE ROBERT SIEGEL PRIZE NOMINATIONS & 2024 ROADMAP NEWS
nomination announcements and what's ahead for 2024
Hi guys! I am excited to announce these five poetry nominations from Dipity Literary Magazine. I had to select a maximum of five poems published in print or online from last year 2023. The Robert Siegel Prize is fairly new to me, but you can read more about it here at https://www.porlockpoetry.com/prize-about .
dipity’s — 2024 Robert Siegel Prize Poetry Nominees:
“Sanctus” by James King
“Turned Leg” by Lauren Endicott
“Typewriter Renaissance” by Dylan Tran
“Southgate, Apt. 4D” by Alex J. Robinson
“Uncloud” by Allissa Sandefur
Sorry, I didn’t hyperlink them above but you can head out to our website to read these online and a few appeared in our recent print issue no. 4 too. While out there be sure to read the latest poetry publications that are up as well. Remember if you miss any past poetry or short story nomination events such as Pushcart or Best of the Net, you can visit the dipity website “Nominations” section or browse this Substack aside from social media. I’ll post them there soonish. It’s always super difficult to pick a certain number, and again I truly loved all the 2023 dipity submissions that were accepted. I absolutely wish I could nominate way more and will be on the lookout for any other new nomination events in the future.
OTHER ITEMS & NEWS
We may start up a support a poet book recs and in-depth reviews section through this Substack — where you can contribute to fun shoutouts to others in the community on their book releases and share your thoughts. I am also looking into highlighting more musicians, bands, and songwriters who support dipity too through this Substack. I know others wanted me to perhaps share some writer’s tools and tips on here or some sort of editor’s mind desk diary/journal log life entries and will consider this. I’m determining what else we can do to increase Substack engagement long term. If you have any thoughts on this or what else you’d like to see from this Substack topic-wise, feel free to leave a comment.
There’s a slight sub-backlog at the moment, but working on catching up to it. I had to bump up our review time back to within 3-4 months but do note it’ll be much sooner for decisions than that typically within 1-2 on average mostly though life events come up now and then of course for team readers and myself. We haven’t had a high interest in our new photography bucket so may discontinue it this month.
Reminder that our Symphonic Challenge is open and the tattoo poetry category as well (FIRST-TIME SUBS ARE FREE). When submitting please remember to double-check your last Submittable message delivery section as we had quite a few missed or unseen communications recently.
I was debating whether to start a brand new podcast dipity. poetry but based on 50-50 split votes from the community we’ll keep both Hummingbird Blink: Nectar Poetry and Moon Milk for now. Dipity is definitely looking for more spoken-word, poetry audio, and video subs!
The official theme of issue no. 5 is not yet settled upon. We may alternate antique issues every other, no. 6, 8, and so forth TBD. Going forward I will be heavily trimming issue sizes and page lengths further down too since initial order standard paper w/ color printing costs are so freaking high — thankfully some back issues do go way way down eventually after a few months with enough order volume.
Again, we just released ANTIQUE ROADSHIP issue no. 4 — it’ll be back out in online bookstores such as Amazon etc. again within the next few weeks since the paper type was required to be changed and a revision was made — you can also get digital versions through the site gift shoppe. Don’t forget to use discount codes on the top banners.
DIPITY PRESS IS ALMOST HERE
YES, we will definitely be starting up Dipity Press (@ dipity.press ) chapbooks very very soon. I finally found a new global distributor to be able to help print and facilitate small saddle stitch-bound physical copies of chapbooks. We hope to support BOTH digital and physical versions of chapbooks and to hopefully get them listed on Amazon as well. Details on how to submit will be out on Submittable probably within the next few weeks after JAN. 11th my 29th birthday or a month out or so! Wow, time flies guys lol! I can’t believe it’s 2024!
Anyways, it’s a new category so bare with me as I get this up and running ASAP. These chapbooks will be comprised of only previously unpublished poetry. I’m just working on finalizing the payment terms and guidelines at the moment. Due to the facilitation of print chapbook copies, not just digital, we must implement a fee for these upcoming chapbook subs.
P.S. If you’re a designer too, traditional artist or collage artist and are interested in helping possibly contribute to the covers of these dipity press poetry chapbooks, you’re welcome to reach out preferably via email through the dipity sites contact forms. I would prefer to have other fellow awesome artists in the community help design the covers of the chapbooks, we accept otherwise, I’ll prob do cover designs if need be to start it at least for the first one possibly. If you have any artists friends def share this too ya.
SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITY
Since I can only really use my right side at the moment still, I’ve decided to primarily just use social media for posting releases, reshares, news, and event updates to the dipity accounts on IG, Threads, and Twitter (X) mostly. I’m debating whether to get dipity a TikTok account and that is TBD too to start reading and sharing pages of back issues. You can subscribe to the online tank through the main page of the dipity site and also stay subscribed to this Substack for updates too. I won’t be super active on my own personal or pen name social media for quite some time so do apologize in advance if any DMs are missed. Definitely check the site more so for updates and our IG stories — there will be much fewer posts for now.
Thanks so much for your support! 2024 here we go! WHOOT! WHOOT!
