dipity. 2025 BEST of the NET Nominations
our BEST of the NET nominations and a few other exciting upcoming announcements
It’s that time of year again! Sorry, I lied we’re not skipping the August updates. Since we’re working on issue no. 5, more Q&As and chapbooks, I’m announcing the selections for Best of the Net. You can find past nominations on our website under More. If you’re not familiar with this event we can choose up to six poems, and two short stories, and there are other categories but sadly no online art for this year or nonfiction pieces within Dipity Lit Mag’s online publications — next year this will change.“The poem, story, or essay must have been first published or appeared on the web between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024,” for the event and its ok if appeared in print after its online appearance.
I def wish I could nominate way more! Although it’s 2024, the nomination event decisions are always announced for the following year so the 2025 nominations are below:
2025 dipity. POETRY NOMINATIONS for BEST of the NET
Just Between Gravity [ To R ] by H. E. Riddleton [ October 2023 ]
You Poem by James King [ November 2023 ]
rough bone whine by Calum Robertson [ November 2023 ]
Autumn by Triston Dabney [ December 2023 ]
Disorganized Attachment: The Bird by Sara Amis [ March 2024 ]
They call it Lovechild by Dorothy Lune [ March 2024 ]
2025 dipity. SHORT FICTION PIECES for BEST of the NET
The Billabong by Rowan MacDonald [ February 2024 ]
Blood On Their Hands by Sarah Das Gupta [ May 2024 ]
You’ll find most of these with visuals in the Online Tank section of our website not all and a few within our Substack publication space. I’m not linking them above intentionally so hopefully you’ll check out this publication space more and search through a few older publications in our website’s Online Tank when you get a chance: https://www.dipitylitmag.com/online-features. The desktop view is a tad easier still and I may reboot our website design once more down the road.
P.S. We may be creating our own Dipity Lit Mag nomination event in the distant future as well where our entire volunteer staff would be involved in those too and we could maybe come up with fun awards or something will see…
Symphonic Challenge 2024
We will announce the winner of the Symphonic Challenge 2024 with Emily Magpie sometime this year on our podcast. That’s the only challenge where poets get inspired by one of the featured artists’ songs and then must create a new poem and Dipity Lit Mag awards a cash amount: $50 for the fave poem. Do note your continued donations and issue purchases help us continue our community publications, challenges, and contests (check out the brand new tip + support section options on the site under More ). Hopefully, we can increase this award amount one day! Rather than 4-5 artists at a time, we may switch it to just one or two for the next round of the challenge.
New Podcast Episode
Episode no. 132 with Dave Nash is up on our Hummingbird Blink: Nectar Poetry podcast—it’s quite a fun poem with a hip-hop visual I clipped together out on Spotify. Give it a listen! You can also listen to just the audio only on Apple podcasts. We are accepting podcast submissions for at least a month (subject to be extended further). Also, I did create a checkbox option where others can read and share/discuss their past Dipity Lit Mag + Dipity Press poetry publications on the podcast without a fee of course. Do note since they made it easier to manage two podcasts—we may bring back our sister podcast in the future TBD.
Chapbook Status
We are still carefully reviewing chapbook submissions from the last window as we have undergone multiple staffing changes due to schedule changes and life events, but I put out a call recently and we got quick responses. If you’re ever interested in volunteering in the future or to be kept in the loop on openings we have a contact form at the bottom of our staff page. Our second chapbook should be finalized actually this month stay tuned—we’re almost to the finish line! It will be our first chapbook with a smidge of artwork in it too. Chapbook subs should reopen after issue no. 5 sometime and a few new releases will follow!
Welcome New Volunteer Staff
Martin Cunningham @martinc.ham and William Swick @talesofsuburbanfailure have joined us as first-line poetry + short story fiction readers on the volunteer staff! Welcome aboard! We will be gradually adding a few new roles in the distant future such as another Poetry Book / Poetry Feedback Reviewer and possibly a few more first and second-line readers. If you applied in the past and reached out via Submittable we recommend you just drop a message/ try again to our inbox instead to be contacted possibly about future open volunteer opportunities on the team so we can note that down for the future.
Issue no. 5 Calls
Our Q&A direct issue no. 5 print call is open for submissions (see guidelines in Submittable) we will select at least one poet + author and up to two for that feature section.
The Book Recs + Advertisement section now has a bucket with new guidelines. Deadlines in Submittable are subject to change. Remember as of 2024 it’s free to initially submit to this unless you’ve submitted to us before. In 2025 or for future issues our advertising structure may change again too.
Do note our design layout will also be a bit different this year as we’re expanding the music + artists section as well.
Our yearly Serendipity Contest just closed so we’ll be deciding the one poem to conclude issue no. 5 with towards the end quite soon.
Upcoming News
After issue no. 5 and a few chapbook releases, we will be starting a NEW fun TRAIL MIX B&W low-cost spin-off print series extension of Dipity Lit Mag in B&W text predominantly. These trail mix (nickname subject to change) print issues will highlight work solely from our online tank and Substack including short stories, poetry, prose, etc. We may include interviews in these as well or some fun surprise sections plus include ones from the nomination events. They will be available to purchase in various online bookstores and through our website, most likely TBD. We will still do our full-color photography magazine paperback issues alongside these B&W text options as well.
Currently, we accept medium to full-length chapbook subs, but will be kickstarting in addition to this downloadable micro chapbook series as well which will have a digital PWYW model most likely for these and they will have 11 poems each (subject to change on its launch date).
Lastly, we hope to slowly grow and add more spoken word pieces to our dipity. productions aka Dipity Literary Magazine YouTube channel. We’ll have one more new visual clip out sometime this year with Eartha’s. I recently created a new SoundCloud account too.
We are probably going to open up one more category in our Substack for photographers, artists, etc., and hope to start poetry collection reviews on here in the distant future. So soon you’ll be able to regularly submit art to Dipity Lit Mag + Press.
Cafeyn Subscriptions
So a reminder we are officially on the Cafeyn reader mobile app and web subscription platform with a $10.99 cover price excluding subscription fees (cover price may change over time). They typically give a free one-month trial and don’t have location usage restrictions based on their Help Center documentation again so you choose the region or country closest to you it appears. So you can either get a digital subscription or purchase print issues — through our site is a satin heavier U.S.-only version or via online bookstores for international shipping. I went back and added spine text to all of our print issues. And I’m working on getting Dipity Lit Mag into more mobile subscription platforms.
Our contributors will receive a deep discount link to issue no. 5 like past years.
Monthly Music Community Recs
I know not everyone uses Instagram so if you missed it these are our TOP 16 July song community recs below. These recommendations may consist of recent releases, new artists, or fave songs of artists I have recently come across too, or those who support Dipity Lit Mag + Press. I’ll try to do these each month if possible or as much as I can throughout the year. Add them to your playlist guys, give them a listen, and don’t forget to check out the jumbo shuffle playlists I made out on Spotify under: dipitylitmag — there’s now a cruel summer one, 9 to 5 work, rock n’ roll, Greek Gods, outer space, road trip, honey bees and lol magician themed one. We now have a BEST of 2023-2024 community playlist out there on Spotify this month too that we’ll cap at about 200-250 songs — still adjusting the ordering a tad and I’ll go back and do a 2022 playlist probably.
