dipity. 2024 Symphonic Challenge Winner
sharing our contest results and some quick dipity. updates for what's ahead
Congrats to Kika Man 文詠玲, their poem “After Blistered Tongue” won dipity’s 2024 Symphonic Challenge. If you’re not familiar with that challenge, it’s where poets create a write inspired by song releases of artists we have featured in past or upcoming issues—it’s the only contest we have that awards a cash prize. I have to break from hosting and doing podcast commentary, so we’re only doing a mix between individual voice reads and solo video episodes now for a bit.
If you missed it yesterday on our Hummingbird Blink: Nectar Poetry podcast, Emily Magpie (@emilymagpieyeah) from issue no. 4 ANTIQUE ROADSHIP shared about her journey in the music industry, gave some cool recommendations, discussed some exciting events, read “After Blistered Tongue” and revealed the other finalists in episode no. 137 out on Spotify, YouTube & Apple. Please be sure to check out Emily Magpie’s music too, particularly her awesome album from earlier this year There are Other Forms of Strength.
The next round launches soon for 2025. The guidelines will be changing slightly next year in terms of how long the challenge runs and when an artist is crossed off the list to pick from to ensure we include as many as possible each year. I’ll share the band/artist prompt list soon—possibly at the end of December 2024—otherwise the bucket should open up sometime before the end of January 2025!
Issue no. 5 Update
We are at 82% completion right now for issue no. 5 of Dipity Lit Mag. Please ensure you get items in no later than December 10th so that we stay on schedule ideally before the holidays that are just around the corner. We’re almost there, but we’re still missing a few items from our music and writer interview sections.
Chapbooks
We have two upcoming poetry chapbook releases in 2025. Stay tuned for cover reveals! Micro chapbooks (our digital series) will be starting sometime next year after issue no. 5 (guidelines for those are not up quite yet).
Be sure to watch/listen to episode no. 136 with Brendan Walsh too where he discusses what led up to november ninth: poems written when i was supposed to be working from home and reads a poem from it!
P.S. We are joining a new partnership/program that will further connect the eBook versions of our chapbooks to libraries/offer easier access to all things dipity.press.
While Waiting For New Releases
Catch up to Season 3 of our Hummingbird Blink: Nectar Poetry podcast and spoken word releases (three more are underway). There will be a few more new podcast episodes as well.
