dipity. Print Issue no. 5 is MEOW OPEN for Poetry Submissions
discussing our next print issue and a few other announcements for next month
Dipity Lit Mag News
We have just opened up print issue no. 5 a bit early! I tend to nickname each issue for fun. So this time [drum roll here….] it’s cat-themed aka Whisker Factory (nickname subject to change) to Catnip Kingdom (just kidding I think that’s an actual company name by the way). I was for some reason thinking about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Old Spaghetti Factory from back home too. Anyways, we are working on the front and back cover photographs for issue no. 5 so sorry no preview in advance yet of it this time but I’ll put it up on the site once we have it finalized!
Don’t worry if ya don’t have a cat, you can still totally submit up to three previously unpublished cat-focused poems. If you get inspired by a cat art sculpture, cat graffiti wall art, an abstract feline museum painting, a friend or loved one’s cat, a cat keychain, cat cafe, decor piece, a statue or souvenir, etc, go for it! We are asking poets to accompany a photograph of theirs with each poem and its pawesome backstory similar to ANTIQUE ROADSHIP. I highly recommend reading issue no. 4 online because that’ll give you a good idea of what we’re looking for essentially.
Although we set a deadline, once we reach 11 poem print acceptances we’ll close out the print issue call. We are probably going to reduce our additional poet print interview section to one author per issue also and trim the issue sizes down a tad further so it’s bite-sized.
I personally have had dogs throughout my life, and chihuahuas as most of you know so who knows maybe one day it’ll be themed around that (just kidding again) but totally we could lol. I think one of my all-time favorite comic book characters is the orange cat, Garfield because we both loved lasagna! Growing up I also really loved the 1998 animated cartoon series CatDog.
We will be adding some poems from our online tank to be in the community bonus shares section (which is not necessarily tied to the theme always there) and spotlighting a few others from the Instagram poetry community as usual and have a surprise featured cat-focused artist.
We may have to put an initial fee over print calls this year TBD, but remember that about 80% of our other categories are still free to submit to initially.
A goal on my to-do list this year is to add Dipity publications to a few mobile reading apps and partner with a few iOS/Android mobile subscription magazine libraries as most seem to be reading the digital versions online. We’ll still offer heavily discounted print versions for contributors to purchase and put them out in online bookstores. I’ll be sure to let you all know how the mobile app(s) pan out or if we establish any other partnerships because aside from print, it would definitely be cool for others to read Dipity Lit Mag digital issues on a smaller mobile device instead of their PC digitally.
All guidelines can be found out on our website and Submittable [Submit Work] and FAQ sections. If you’re a photographer and would like to donate photos to us that may fit the theme feel free to reach out to the Staff section of our site and fill out the contact form located at the bottom.
Dipity Press News
We are currently prepping chapbook no. 2. You can view its rad cover preview out on our website (the full cover design can be seen on your Desktop site/PC view).
I am looking into possibly offering hardcover versions of chapbooks and incorporating some artwork into the interior of future chapbooks in the Dipity Press series too.
Music Waves & Podcast News
We have one new Hummingbird Blink: Nectar Poetry podcast episode under construction to announce the winner of the 2024 Symphonic Challenge with a stellar guest voice!
We at times hold multiple rounds of the challenge each year and award our fave poem $50 USD. View past winners on our website. Round no. 1 of 2024 closed recently.
Most of our podcast episodes are available on Spotify, but with the format changes, they’ll be out on Apple and elsewhere to listen to. Remember we’ll be changing the Symphonic Challenge to feature one musician/artist at a time in the future.
Sometimes we have to close categories early without notice due to unforeseen life events impacting schedules or our caps. If you’re interested in submitting to the podcast or saw another category vanish, no worries it’ll be open again in the near future and we have other spoken word submission opportunities. We can only have a certain number of sub-buckets (about 5) open in each window.
More musician spotlights and interviews are headed your way this year!
YouTube
Another goal is to slowly grow out our Dipity Lit Mag YouTube channel. We’ve noticed a decline in Instagram engagement partly due to the backend algorithmic challenges aside from stories so are really focusing on expanding to other platforms and spaces such as growing our Substack e-mail/subscriber list and perhaps will do flip-throughs of our issues, discussing various experiences in the world of poetry and give a closer look at our chapbooks out on the YouTube channel in the future. Stay tuned!
We appreciate anyone who takes the time to comment, subscribe here, pledge support to our Substack and other channels, or donates directly to community projects of our website’s new GiveButter landing and footer support campaign. Thanks for your support! Have awesome days ahead! ~ Jazz Marie Kaur (Vevna Forrow)
